The Chincherinchee Flower

My chincherinchee flowers have opened beautifully this morning.  Photos will be posted in a minute. In the meantime, evidently Perry Como liked them enough he did a little music video about them in 1956.  Enjoy!

Serenity of this week's flowers

I "work" a full day of flowers one day a week, usually Wednesday or Thursday.  I find that while I'm arranging, I'm talking myself through a dozen blog posts: new things I found at the market, observations, things I've learned about botanical chemistry, longevity of flowers and so on.  Oh and then my mind goes crazy creating iPhone apps.  Stay tuned.   But by now, I am exhausted.  No dance class for me tonight!  I'm just going to post all the beautiful photos of the awe-inspiring flowers and hopefully later tonight after a bit of dinner or tomorrow morning with my coffee, I'll post all of the random thoughts I had this morning.

Flowers that last and last...

I'm not sure if this is good for business or bad for business.  But in picking up arrangements today, here are pictures of one that was made last Wednesday.  I would do a comparison shot, but I just went to the market and need to get busy!  Later.

A Look Back At Some Favorites

I've just sent out an email to a handful of friends, so I thought it might be good to post some pictures of my favorite floral creations from the past month or so.

Yesterday's Flowers: Lemonade out of Lemons

So yesterday was the kind of day when flowers fell apart in my hands.  All day. It was so frustrating.  And it was a muggy, rainy day so I was concerned about the flowers to begin with and wanted to make sure that my clients all had air conditioning running!   Here's what yesterday looked like.

The good news is that I went back to the market today (to "exchange" those crumbling flowers for fresh ones) and I'll post the group of flowers I have ready to play with.  I'm going to be selling bouquets tomorrow in Tribeca assuming it's a decent weather day.

Autumn Flowers in Tribeca

It's always interesting to see what colors and shapes of flowers I will find in the market. And it amazes me how fast they all come together magically in the studio: it makes me so insanely happy.  This one is sitting next to my computer and makes me giggle:
Here are the larger floral arrangments for the week.  They are a mixture of sharp and fuzzy flowers in deeper hues than you can see here.  The photographs don't do them justice: they look pretty spectacular in their current homes.

If you look closely, you'll see gold ornaments at the bottom of these vases.

A Preview of This Week's Flowers

I'm still photographing this week's arrangements -- and please take note that I am not the best floral photographer -- but just to give you an idea of what this week looks like:
